Department of Pharmacology
Pharmacology involves the study of the actions of drugs and chemicals on cells, tissues and the whole body. Pharmacological studies may involve gaining knowledge of the mechanism of drug action, drug toxicity, the use of drugs as tools to delineate biological processes during health and disease, identification and validation of new cellular targets for drug action, and the design and development of new drugs. The aim of Pharmacology studies is to improve the way drugs are tested and to give greater benefit in the treatment of disease.
Departmental Research Activities:
The departmental staff is engaged in various collaborative and self-supported research projects. This research work is routinely presented at various national and international symposias and published in reputed national as well as international journals. The major research interests of department include:
- Screening of synthetic drugs as well as phytochemicals for pharmacological action.
- Development of herbal formulation/Ayurvedic preparation suitable for human use.
- Study of toxicity profile of medicinal plants and synthetic drugs.
- Pharmacokinetic study
- Drug interactions.
The Pharmacology department is comprised of two well-equipped laboratories and animal house for teaching and research activities. The departmental animal house is approved by CPCSEA ((committee for the purpose of supervision and experimentation on animals), New Delhi for research. The recognition number is No. 941/Po/c/06/CPCSEA. The major equipment’s available in the department are as follows:
Subjects in the syllabus:
